We whizzed down the back streets of Seminyak and the smaller the streets became the deeper we time travel into a Bali of a time gone-by...

This year, my dear friend and photographer; William Meppem and I captured the essence of this perfect boathouse, located in Newport, Sydney. The ideal spot to drop your anchor this holiday season.

I have dreamt of a boathouse escape for many years and all of my dreams have come true in a recent visit to a space that captures it all, The Salty Dog. This miniature house provides all of the nuances of boat building within its own minute space. Situated amongst the quintessential Sydney landscape of emerald green water and unique sandstone structures - surrounded by angophora gums. 

With the extension of the dinghy & direct entrance to the water, this house evolves into an explorative landscape that extends beyond its petite footprint. If I were to create the ideal boathouse... This would be it.

In late summer, while on a whirlwind weeklong tour of Tasmania, we finally hopped over to Flinders. An island of vast landscapes, big vistas, even bigger tides & breathtaking sunsets.

Earlier in the year I travelled to Bali to spend a few glorious days with friends. Absorbing the rich & textural colour palette of the landscape, and not to mention the breathtaking interiors that seemingly have no limits!

Flinders Island is just a 45 minute flight in a small, 20-seater plane from Hobart on Sharpe airlines (or you can fly in from Launceston or Melbourne). In late summer, while on a whirlwind weeklong tour of Tasmania, we finally made the hop over to Flinders, an island of big vistas, big tides (3m), giant limpets, vast land, sea and skyscapes, and big sunsets

 Just under an hour outside of Hobart - a lovely drive down roads lined with apple, nectarine, pear and plum trees - you’ll find The Bowmont, overlooking the Huon River in the village of Franklin.

If you're laying low these end of term holidays, immerse yourself in my recent trip to Menorca, Spain. Absorb the rich colours, architecture, interiors & of course, layered history. It's just as good as going yourself (*almost)

My tips on creating a comfortable, distinctive & characterful  short-stay accommodation space for your guests. Because it's not a hotel, it's a home - even if only for a few nights! Whether it's a grand European palazzo or a shack on the beach, thoughtful details make the space & set the tone for a relaxing stay.
