Flanked by rice paddy fields with hand-woven pinwheel scarecrows and paper kites flying in the breeze we stopped outside an oversized door with welcoming marigold-lined steps. The door, the most perfect shade of gloss (think a very early Prada shade) with striking brass hardware and walls of white render just oozed in style and you could tell that something fabulous was on the other side!

Enter the iconic Australian creative whose career has blessed our Australian fashion & interior landscape over the past 40+ years, Stuart Membery!

Introducing Pineapple Hill.

This is his latest project, an oasis villa secreted by high walls once entered, it has a central pool with countless palm trees & 4 bedrooms spilling off it and a large airy poolside dining & lounge room run by the best of his staff.

The combination of old-world charm and elegance with a dash of humour takes its cues (not confirmed by SM) from a 1960s movie set with Doris Day & Raffles Singapore. I wouldn't have been surprised if the likes of Bunny Melon had wandered out of one of the rooms and offered me a cocktail.

The look is all Stuart with his hallmark Island Luxe style with timeless furniture pieces from his own collection mixed with cool graphic art, vintage textiles & monogrammed bed linen within the restrained palette of green & white.

Once you have entered these doors, it is tempting never to leave this calm & glamour as this is personalised boutique hospitality at its best (even down to the monogrammed bathroom amenities.

This year, my dear friend and photographer; William Meppem and I captured the essence of this perfect boathouse, located in Newport, Sydney. The ideal spot to drop your anchor this holiday season.

I have dreamt of a boathouse escape for many years and all of my dreams have come true in a recent visit to a space that captures it all, The Salty Dog. This miniature house provides all of the nuances of boat building within its own minute space. Situated amongst the quintessential Sydney landscape of emerald green water and unique sandstone structures - surrounded by angophora gums.

With the extension of the dinghy & direct entrance to the water, this house evolves into an explorative landscape that extends beyond its petite footprint. If I were to create the ideal boathouse... This would be it.
