Armchair Travel | The Crayshack, Flinders Island

Exploring the humble beauty & nautical charm of the Crayshack

Do you dream of remote islands with just a simple shack to protect you and be your base whilst you explore? Well, the Cray shack is for you!

 The Landscape

Looking out to a horseshoe shape bay of crystal clear waters and lichen covered boulders The Cray shack is located on Flinders Island in Bass Strait. Earlier this year we flew from Hobart & then bumped along sandy roads to to create a ‘design disturbance’ at this perfectly humble beachside shack.

A 15 min 4WD sand track through the farm takes you to Stacky's Bight Beach.  Cuttlefish line the tideline where giants of mottled orange lichen and grey stones lie sleeping, marking the magical point where the mountains meet the sea.

    Winter Wonderland in Overland, Tasmania

The overland Track in Tasmania’s Cradle Mountain is one of the most beautifully scenic, nature-immersing hikes you can possibly do. It will reset you into the rhythm and awe of nature. I went in late April when the Tanglefoot Fagus, an endemic deciduous beech endemic to the Tassie highlands  leaves were turning and littered the track like orange & yellow snowflakes.
