Inspiration

When developing a product, an idea begins with a story, a particular sensibility, process or material that I am inspired by. I like to give leave to the story and histories, both real and imagined, to take flight and shape the form. My imagination is endlessly sparked by the timeworn patina of vintage wares, sometimes spied in old homes, museums, or happened upon at fleamarkets. All of the products I create for The Society inc. are handmade to add to the rich tapestry of your home and spark delight as only a beautiful and thoughtfully designed object can.

A cupboard without a beautiful handle is like an outfit without the pizzazz of the perfect accessory. There isn’t a more simple upgrade that packs a punch as much as upgrading your hardware. The power of a handle to transform a cupboard is wondrous.

The scallop is a sign used along the Camino de Santiago, a pilgrimage walk that has been trekked by thousands of travellers over the centuries. Pilgrims would identify themselves with a scallop shell attached on their person, and follow the way by looking for the scallop sign affixed or painted on walls & doorways. This classic shape has been cast from a scallop shell I had amongst my library of objects and all its beautiful detailing shines in aged brass.

My hardware range is made up of many things that I am often looking for, and good looking ceiling hooks were close to the top of the list! A simple and humble piece, but meant to be seen and celebrated.

The bathroom can easily become a room in your home that exists without a thought about its look. I find that adding a couple of extras helps to invite a little more luxury to this space.

A girlfriend of mine once asked where I hide all my ugly stuff. I believe that nothing has to be ugly. I'll keep an eye out for something old, well-made and so considered in its design and material over the quick buy. This applies to hole punches, receipt pins, string holders, tape dispensers and the like.
