Just under an hour outside of Hobart - a lovely drive down roads lined with apple, nectarine, pear and plum trees - you'll find The Bowmont, overlooking the Huon River in the village of Franklin. We've coveted staying there ever since discovering it on Instagram, and on our whirlwind trip to Tasmania in late summer, we had the opportunity to do just that.

My tips on creating a comfortable, distinctive & characterful  short-stay accommodation space for your guests. Because it's not a hotel, it's a home - even if only for a few nights! Whether it's a grand European palazzo or a shack on the beach, thoughtful details make the space & set the tone for a relaxing stay.

Earlier this year, we popped down to Tasmania to visit Lumière Lodge, a beautifully restored late 19th century townhouse (and Airbnb) in the foothills of West Hobart, to create a design disturbance with The Society inc’s latest range of hardware & homewares. Read on to find out a little about how it went...

When developing a product, an idea begins with a story, a particular sensibility, process or material that I am inspired by. I like to give leave to the story and histories, both real and imagined, to take flight and shape the form. My imagination is endlessly sparked by the timeworn patina of vintage wares, sometimes spied in old homes, museums, or happened upon at fleamarkets. All of the products I create for The Society inc. are handmade to add to the rich tapestry of your home and spark delight as only a beautiful and thoughtfully designed object can.

A cupboard without a beautiful handle is like an outfit without the pizzazz of the perfect accessory. There isn’t a more simple upgrade that packs a punch as much as upgrading your hardware. The power of a handle to transform a cupboard is wondrous.

The good news is, it won’t break the bank to upgrade your bare & unadorned wardrobe handles or Ikea kitchen cupboards with something transformative. Here are our top tips for updating your cabinet pulls and knobs!
