The Society inc created a little disturbance at Bismarck House, showcasing how you can weave in hand-crafted hardware & homegoods in a contemporary home to add that extra layering of character & texture
Driving down a back street one day, looking for that elusive car spot, I stumbled upon the most interesting of facades & intriguing of gardens spilling from it. Understandably I illegally stopped to take a closer look. Such cleverness of design was further revealed when I explored the front and what was adjoining small cottage facades, painted in dark & light, journeyed through a thoroughly enjoyable addition of shape, texture , materials and planting. An oasis and stand out in the density of Bondi Beach and its surrounds.
Digging a little deeper, a few of my contemporaries contributed to this softly spoken magnificence including Will Dangar, Karen McCartney, David Harrison and architect Andrew Burges. I have dreamt of a boathouse escape for many years and all of my dreams have come true in a recent visit to a space that captures it all, The Salty Dog. This miniature house provides all of the nuances of boat building within its own minute space. Situated amongst the quintessential Sydney landscape of emerald green water and unique sandstone structures - surrounded by angophora gums.
With the extension of the dinghy & direct entrance to the water, this house evolves into an explorative landscape that extends beyond its petite footprint. If I were to create the ideal boathouse... This would be it.
