The Stylist’s Guide to LA | The Surfrider Hotel
On the famous Route 1 highway that stretches the length of the Californian coastline lies The Surfrider Hotel, an ideal, nostalgic Malibu stay with its spectacular views, delicious food offering and interiors that leave you wanting to move right in.
It encapsulates the quintessential essence of Malibu, one feels a strong sense of nostalgia for the surf lifestyle and Californian surrounds with its considered architecture and paired back interiors. With thoughtful oak, lining board walls and beautiful steel framed chairs, you could easily imagine being right at home with the allure of the surf calling you.
No need to go far for a great dining experience as Surfrider’s menu that is very much paddock to plate is served on the rooftop, surrounded by fantastic landscaping and even though I was there in winter, it was still quite cosy with the gas burners going. The view is unbeatable, in fact you can simply check the surf break just by peering out.
Should you wish to venture out, the Malibu Pier is just across the road with several dining options and there’s plenty to do & see around Santa Monica. If you are shopping inclined, Malibu Country Mart has bountiful options or pay a visit to Getty Villa for a taste of ancient Grecian and Roman culture. To shake off the jetlag book in for a spin class at SoulCycle or take a stroll through the incredible gardens of Lotusland in Santa Barbara.
Whilst I was only at Surfrider for one night, it was the perfect stopover to recover from the long Sydney flight and soak in some Malibu goodness before jet setting off to the next destination.
