Knots

The humble knot is something that has always caught my eye and conjures up dreams of sailing the seven seas. Even when I spot some sea-faring ropes, I can almost taste the salt on my tongue. I love that some canny knot work can transform a piece of rope into an essential piece of technology. Perhaps today the art form of the knot sits in a more decorative space, but looking deep into the past, you'll find that the knot was so much more. Science suggests that the knot predates the wheel as one of man's earliest innovations. But for me, I'm most interested in the uses of the knot today. The pirate in me can't go past a monkey's fist as a sculptural door stop. And my new line of hardware found more inspiration in the twisted forms. The Telltale drawer pull features a knot of steel and my Monkeys Fist drawer pulls are named so they speak for themselves. Here's hoping that the knot doesn't fall into the forgotten relics category... perhaps it's worth tying a piece of string around your finger, just to be sure.
