The Alphabet Of Objects: A is for...

Anchor

We're casting off on a new alphabet journey today, and what better way to start than with an object that inspires its own sense of adventure? The anchors that I love become clear in history after the bronze age. Prior to that you might find your boat being weighted down with a basket of stones. It's the metal 'teeth' that led to the anchor shape we all know and love today. To me, the anchor is less of a weight that holds you down – I more think about its raising up as the beginning of a long sea-faring adventure. You can almost smell the salty sea air and hear the calls of the gulls when you see its shape. This is why I have added the anchor motif to drawer pulls, door knockers, flags and mugs. I love what it represents. This is why it's the perfect object to signal the start of our new alphabet – anchors away! You can shop my anchor-inspired pieces here.
