I have wanted to experience this for a very long time & the fact that I’m going to miss it by 5 days is devastating- but to know I will witness all the crafts that come with the celebration is exciting.
It falls on November 1 & 2 and is a celebration of loved ones that have passed, when their souls return to their friends & family for a joyous occasion without tears. Paper is the medium of choice: Papier mache gangly string connected skeletons in all sizes, hand-painted & glittered & brightly painted skulls are a-plenty!! The word calavera, or calaverita, means skull in Spanish and can be found everywhere and in candy & chocolate as well.
