I am working on the design of new music/live performance space UPSTAIRS (yes thats the name) at the Beresford. My super cool assistant, Hannah, suggested neon arrows at entrance. I have taken it one step forward & designed varying size arrows leading up the large staircase. Uber cool! We found a new product that is faux neon with LED lights, so exciting & with more flexibility & durability than neon.
Whilst your waiting for UPSTAIRS to open in June 2011, feast your eyes on one of my fav shops (and its entrance) in NYC that features in my latest book, the Stylist's Guide to NYC .
KIOSKKIOSK (www.kioskkiosk.com) - In a similar vein to The Society inc., owner Alisa changes ‘countries’ every few months. A selection of ‘goods’ from a chosen country (Japan, Germany, Sweden etc.) are displayed in this second floor walk-up. The entrance is heavily graffitied, a super cool experience in itself. I always leave with a large bag of goodies: pipecleaners, kazoo, aluminium clips, james bond googles and other crazy necessary things.
