I have had a long-time fancy to design an Atelier furniture range i.e. furniture pieces that are found around a studio. It goes hand-in-hand with my intimate curiosity of artists studios & artists 'props'. After going to an exhibition of Matisse & his textiles many years ago with my Mum at the Met, I paid even more attention to the artists props 7 studio setting that appears in the paintings.
Think plinths, tables that turn, stools, canvas covered tables etc. all splattered with thick paint, plaster, clay or any other materials being splashed & splayed around! I stumbled across some fab new pieces by NYC based designer Rolf Sachs, and was inspired to have a go with some bits & pieces I had lying around the shop. Not so sophisticated but super fun & a bit messy (which makes it even more fun!)- a new lease of life was given to these pieces. This was my inspiration- & here's how my own masterpieces turned out.
