The rebirth of Midcentury Modern | New hardware

A couple of decades ago, when living in TriBeCa NYC, I visited an exhibition on Duane Street of mid-century designer Carl Auböck. His love of cane, wood, leather and brass are of endless inspiration, and my latest collection is a homage to his many designs that were released in 1954.

While I often hark back to even earlier times in my hardware designs, the simple, streamlined beauty of Midcentury Modern has always held an allure for me. Particularly when it gives me the chance to incorporate a mix of beautiful materials that complement each other, with each finish bringing out the texture, depth or luminosity of the others.
My new range shows off the way leather and cane can make brass gleam a little brighter, while sturdy blackened iron brings out the warmth and subtle colour variations in handwoven cane and leather.

Summer Stay at The Salty Dog

Summer Stay at The Salty Dog

This year, my dear friend and photographer; William Meppem and I captured the essence of this perfect boathouse, located in Newport, Sydney. The ideal spot to drop your anchor this holiday season.

I have dreamt of a boathouse escape for many years and all of my dreams have come true in a recent visit to a space that captures it all, The Salty Dog. This miniature house provides all of the nuances of boat building within its own minute space. Situated amongst the quintessential Sydney landscape of emerald green water and unique sandstone structures - surrounded by angophora gums.

With the extension of the dinghy & direct entrance to the water, this house evolves into an explorative landscape that extends beyond its petite footprint. If I were to create the ideal boathouse... This would be it.
